Ads Impact a Lot !

I think that Ads and other forms of media that portray women as "perfect" affect many "normal" women's views of their own appearance. I know that whenever I start to feel good about myself, I see some ad in a magazine or on television and I get self-conscious all over again!


I have always tried to be skinny, but it has never worked. Seeing these women on television and magazines makes me want to go to extreme measures to look like them. This has caused me to be super self-conscious, and I make myself feel terrible whenever I look in the mirror or at my body.

I have become slightly depressed and don't want any other girl to feel like this. I believe that women should be portrayed as real women, and not ones that are all photoshoped to be perfect!

just want to commend you for your insight into cultural norms that a lot of us are aware of but take for granted..the thought that everyday, we are exposed to and influenced (sometimes positively, sometimes negatively) by the media and what we see and hear as "beautiful" or "ideal." You are right that these images aren't true to what is natural with the variety of how God made women!

I encourage you to find your true source of guidance for what it means to be a woman from God and His word and surround yourself with people who don't make you feel like you need to be anything less than who you are. Remember you are "fearfully and wonderfully made." Even if it sounds cliche, you are who you are for a reason. Don't sacrifice your life because of what the media tries to accomplish in showing girls they are not enough.
You are more than enough! I encourage you to speak to someone in the times you feel depressed. Isolation is the devil's friend. I'll be praying for you!
