Barbie's wide variety of careers and professions is a good example for young girls to look up to, but one thing to consider is that Barbie IS the media, she is yet another female figure that young girls long to be like. Unfortunately, our female youth is influenced by the media and Barbie is a part of this. But the bigger issue is overall media influence. Girls should be educated about media influence and learn to accept their natural beauty. I think that besides her flawless body image, she is a great role model. But due to her influence, I would steer young girls away from her. It is a great idea to make her more realistic! But the main thing is to let young girls know that they are pretty the way they are! A new doll with realistic and natural characteristics would be excellent for today's female youth to look up to. So, overall, Barbie would get a thumbs down from me.
