I've faced this problem too. Standing up for modesty is a lot easier when your not alone. People have a tendency to conform. If you're with a group who wears bikinis, then its a lot easier to wear them. On the other hand, if your group is dressed modestly, its a lot easier to dress modestly. Not only is it easier, it tends to pressure people to dress modestly too. The book "Will the Real Heretic Please Stand up?" by David Bercot addresses the modesty and conformity issue. Its a really good read.
As far as swimwear for competitve swimming, I've always worn a swimsuit with long board shorts and sleeveless, work out tee. Underarmor stuff dries really quickly and doesnt become too clingy if you can find the right shirt. Also, if you go to pacsun or surf/skateboard shops at the end of summer, their board shorts are on sale. I've gotten a pair for five dollars before.
Good luck and I salute you for trusting and obeying God even when its inconvenient and doesn't make much sense to us. You're in good company; Noah did it and he came out okay :)
