how i overcame gossip

my mom has told me since i was very young that if my friends & i talk about people behind their back, then how do i know that they dont talk about me behind my back.


i've always struggled with gossiping, i think its a habit most women have, we like to talk. (:

but recently ive realized i cannot be as close to God if im spreading rumors and talking about His children behind their backs.

i really just leaned on the Lord to help me & i got an accountability partner & we pray together & are responsible to each other not to gossip.

it was hard at first, but now the Holy Spirit speaks louder to me and i know how to avoid situations where i might be tempted to gossip. and people have learned that i dont do that anyone.

you might lose a "friend" or two but its worth it, a real friend will support you in your decision not to gossip. and who knows you might influence them too!

Hi!

The Lord has really strengthened you and gave you wisdom, such that you were able to overcome gossip! It is definitely by His strength and not ours. So to God be all the glory!

Gossip is definitely a big temptation, and it is hard to draw a line too. When are we genuinely concerned about a friend and when do we just want to talk to someone else about something he/she did? When are we sharing with someone to lift the burden off ourselves, and when do we have a hidden agenda? These are questions we need to constantly ask ourselves and let the Holy Spirit reveal the answers to us.

As with everything else, you can't please everyone. But when you know that your life belongs to God, you will seek to please Him and honour Him in all that you do. After all, everyone else is watching what you do and how you act, because they know that you are a Christian. I encourage you to continue to live your life for the glory of God!
