Modesty in the Bible

Okay, so my guy friend is a new Christian, and I am very happy for him. However, he is struggling with what I am telling him about God's morals and what his parents consent with. He does not agree nor understand why breasts are to be off limits when dating. He says that girls have them half out there anyway, and that they seem nice, so why can he not have at them if he ever gets a girlfriend. I disagree with his views strongly, but I am having a hard time specifically appeasing him with Bible verses. So my question is, where does it say in God's Law that such things are vile and unholy to God?

I agree with Shelley's views and do take a look at her article and listen to her talk.

This is a very important area, and I'm so glad that you have strong convictions and pray that God will use you mightily to share these convictions with your friends.

You see, it's very scary how the devil attempts to get such footholds in us. He may not succeed to convince everyone that pre-marital sex is OK, so he uses a different tactic. He tells us that it is ok to compromise, that some things are OK. But the problem is that we are not to compromise on God's values. God clearly says that is it not the actual act that is a sin, but the thought of it. When a man lusts after a woman, that is sin in itself.

While I agree that many girls nowadays do not cover themselves up enough and show off body parts by wearing short skirts, low cut tops etc, that does not justify why it is ok for men to enjoy a girl's breasts while they are not married. Obviously it stimulates a guy to touch and see a girl's breasts, and once stimulation starts, all sorts of things come along with it, the devil can start to attack and control the person while he is in a "high" mood, and do things which are against God's will. Since pre-marital sex is prohibited by God, and it is really for our own good, then all the things which lead up to that should be abstained and withheld from. The fact is we are all human and can fall easily to temptation. Rather than test our limits to how far we can go, or how much temptation we can withstand, we should not even step into the zone but stay clear of such temptations.

Continue to pray for the wisdom of God to show you how to approach your friend about this. I pray that God will speak to his heart and cause him to see the error of his thinking.

Encourage your friend also, and pray with him, and ask him to seek God for answers himself. To read the bible and pray more. Because God will speak and answer when we seek Him.

It would be good to read the following verses:

Ephesians 4:27
and do not give the devil a foothold.

Matthew 5:28
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Colossians 3:5
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.

-Jeremiah 29:13
The power of prayer

I totally agree with Sarah.
While the Bible doesn't specifically say that touching a girls breasts is wrong, it does say that fornication is wrong. (Read Galations 5.) And all the things that your friend is talking about is used to lead up to sex, which God intended only for a husband and wife to enjoy.
By doing these things he will be making it harder for himself to be faithful to his future wife with his thought life as these images of other women he's been with may pop into his head. God always gives us boundaries for our protection and our good, never to harm us or stop us from having fun. If we keep ourselves pure in thought and action for our future spouse, God promises a sweeter relationship.However if your friend stumbles in this area, God is always there to forgive and restore. Try to remember how difficult it is for him, as images of provocative women are all around us these days.
Having said all this, i think the best appraoch is not to try to convince him with arguements, but to be an example in the way you respect yourself and treat your body with honour(by the sounds of which, you are doing already:)), and then pray for him. Pray that Gods word will become truth inside of him, and that God will speak into his heart and teach him. When Gods Word becomes a reality to him,he will want to please his Father out of love and not duty. He is still a new Christian, and so still has his old thought patterns, which won't go over night. God can do mighty things when we pray!!!
You sound like a very mature and Godly woman, and i just want to encourage you to stand firm in your faith, and to not cease praying! Hope this helped.
