Stolen Breath

When the certainty is so overwhelming it deceives you,

You move to think, breathe, look but you can't.
The feeling of someone else pulling at your strings,
Taking you through motions without retribution.

To wallow in the self pity, no, not this time,
Not at the realisation that you are worth more.
Bitter sweet is so preoccupied with proving itself,
When it comes to pass you have already woken.

The tyrant that chases me, trying to destroy the hope,
Will never win, you will not win, because I am worse.
Through all the uncertainty, it is not me here, not now,
That will change, I will be everything I know you can't.

This is not my big trial, not my sweeping moment,
A swift breeze to point me in the direction I need.
You serve your purpose, always will, ugly and brutal,
But I will cherish you for it, for where you fail, i succeed.

When the certainty is so overwhelming it deceives you,
Walk ahead into what you don't know, what scares you.
No longer will I be trapped by what you bring down in me,
I may fall, but I will not hesitate to stumble.

If it brings me back to this moment, to my own realisation,
Then every pain, every stolen breath you take will be mine.
Because you showed me that I am certain in myself,
I am who I am, strong, determined and forever right.
