The Lord Said to Moses...
by Shelley Hitz
As I've been reading Leviticus, I've noticed a theme. Over and over it says, "The Lord said to Moses..."
So, I decided, I wanted to do a little research and see how many times this phrase is repeated in these 27 chapters. Here is what I found out.
The number of times "The Lord said to..." appears in Leviticus:Amplified version - 35
NIV - 34What does that say to me? It says that the book of Leviticus was written based upon Moses' relationship with God. God was speaking to Moses and sharing these laws and regulations with Him. He didn't just write it on stone and give it to Moses.
He spoke to Moses.
Interesting...I love the fact that I serve a relational God.Sometimes over the years I've gotten this view of God as distant and judging. And yet He shows himself to be the opposite...near to us and relational.
He wants to speak to us. He longs for relationship and communication.Isn't that what I long for too?
I also long for relationship, for community, for someone who will really listen to me and help guide me through the obstacles of life.
And so many times, He is right there, waiting for me to realize that I already have what I long for.
"And the Lord said to ___________ (your name)"Just fill in the blank with your name.
And the Lord said to Shelley. Wow...now that's something pretty incredible. And if he did it for Moses and Aaron why should I not believe that
He can and will communicate to me in the same way.
I may not audibly hear God's voice in my daily life, but He speaks to me.
- He speaks to me through His Word (reveals things to me through His Holy Spirit as I read)
- He speaks to me through others and
- He speaks to me through my prayer time
God still speaks today I think it's pretty exciting that the God I serve is not mute....He still speaks to people today. He speaks to me and He speaks to you.
The big question is....Am I listening? Are you listening? Are your spiritual ears open to hear from God? If not, I encourage you to start praying on a regular basis for God to open your ears to hear Him. And then believe that He is able to speak to you.
When you do, you'll be amazed at how your relationship with the God of this universe grows and flourishes.
I don't think I'll ever completely understand WHY He wants to speak to me, but I sure am thankful He does!! Hearing from God has completely changed my life. And it can change yours too.
“He who belongs to God hears what God says.” John 8:47
“I (Jesus) have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But, when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.” John 16:12-13
