what i just learned about the guy i like

ok, so i like this guy at school. he and i are both new, but we came from different schools. ive liked him for about 2 1/2 months and he likes me too. today i was talking to my friend who is new and was at his old school last year. we had 2 conversations about it. the first one the guy heard all of. it went like this:

friend: "i hate him. i cant believe i have to be in class with him again."
me (confused and caught off guard): "im sorry"
friend: "i just hate him!"
me: "why?"
friend: "hes mean and annoying and he made me miserable last year"

since i was surprised, i kept saying "im sorry" when she would complain about him. like i said, he was listening the whole time. the rest of the day he was mad at me. later she told me that last year at their old school she was new and was trying to find friends and he spread a rumor about her that wasnt true but everybody believed him and so no one wanted to be her friend. he seems like the nicest Christian guy ever and hes never been mean to anyone at my school. i still cant believe what she told me. im mad and sad and confused. idk what to think. should i forgive him and think hes changed since then and just wanted to start over and forget the past or should i think hes still like that underneath his "outward Christian niceness attitude"? HELP!!!!!

Did you ask him about it? If he doesn't seem like that kind of guy and you have known him longer, what makes you think that she is right about this, and that she isn't the liar? I'm not saying she is, but you can't take a side until you hear both sides. If he did it, and asks forgiveness that is one thing, of course you should forgive him. But don't hold it against him until you at least talk to him about it.
